Coronation Market is located in Downtown Kingston, Jamaica. As a child going there with my parents, aunt or grandparents I knew there would be one delicious reward — a refreshing jelly coconut!
VIBE:
While perusing the various vendors (we call them higglers) at Coronation Market there are lots of foodie treats to try and buy. However, once you get to the vendor selling the fresh jelly coconuts it's time for a break! The salespeople usually have a flair for the dramatic. Your coconut will be sliced open with a machete and shaped perfectly for you to use a straw or do as the locals do and drink directly from the coconut. That's not all though...when done ask them to break it open. Using the same machete, they will split it down the middle slice off a "shard" for you to use as a scoop to eat the coconut jelly inside. Pure refreshing, energizing deliciousness!!!
