Being the female authority figure in male dominated industries comes with a variety of challenges. We have to be twice as smart and work twice as hard to excel and more often than not all of our hard work is unappreciated and undervalued. Being a double minority just adds to the oppressive behavior of the men in our industries, other races and sadly even from other women of color.
It is an undeniable fact that the gender and race pay gaps have been completely and indissolubly linked throughout labor relations historically in the United States. Women as a whole earn $0.83 per hour to each $1.00 earned by men — that number is lower for black women with the same or greater qualifications to do the job. [Cite U.S. Census Reports]

Being an entrepreneur puts you in the driver's seat, however it does not remove the pay gap. In fact, even in the virtual world of Second Life the gender and race pay gap exists. It also spills over into opportunities being held back from avatars who don't have a more European appearance resulting in a pigeonhole effect grid-wide.
Being assertive or asserting our authority in higher ranking positions has resulted in women being referred to as mean, ball-busting, head-bitch-in-charge and other derogatory and demeaning names. I have been called these names and worse in RL and SL. In my most sarcastic tone: Apparently beauty and brains don't go together, you must be succeeding on your back if you aren't ugly. Pfft....miss me with that — that's Ms. HBIC to you... oh and while you're at it take all of this #BlackGirlMagic!!!
