In recent years many of us have heard and even used the phrase "REPRESENTATION MATTERS!" For those of us that fall in a societal category that is deemed as being in the "minority" this is even more important. To see — especially for a child— someone that is a part of our demographic accomplish and exceed the goals we thought were unattainable drives us even more. Although my parents didn't allow me to watch the film, I knew that Jennifer Beals was more like me than not when I saw her on the poster in the starring role of FLASHDANCE.
When you have a strong and encouraging support system of family and or friends, it makes the road to achieving your goals less arduous to travel. Flashdance tells just that story as seen here in the synopsis, "Alex Owens (Jennifer Beals) is a beautiful young woman who works a day job in a steel mill and dances in a bar at night.
